Monterey Holidays

Cast in three movements, Monterey Holidays was written to honor and celebrate one of Northern California’s most magnificent cities. Each movement depicts local festivities held in and around the City of Monterey. Commissioned by the United States Air Force Band, the instrumentation includes an optional part for cello. Substantial doubling and cross-cueing is included throughout the score allowing for good performances even with less than the full instrumentation.

Ricercare

Originally a composition of an introductory nature, ricercares later became “free” compositions resembling fugues. This work is a series of imitative episodes based on the opening English horn motive and features syncopation and meter changes. Cross-cues for the English horn solos are given in other instruments. Partita

Robert Linn (1925-1999) composed Partita in 1980 for Baylor University. Two energetic Allegro sections frame a central Adagio. The seemingly jagged and agitated melodic lines contain wide leaps and distinct articulations. The central section retains these melodic qualities but Mr. Linn presents them in a lyrical setting with extended chordal harmonies. Feature this tour-de-force on your next concert!
