SOE Practice and Assessment Software
Using Online Amadeus
Frequently Asked Questions – and Answers!
  1. Can the Online Amadeus be used on both MAC and PC?
No. Currently the Online Amadeus is available for PC only. For MAC users, you might want to check out the Standard of Excellence Assessment software using Amadeus al Fine!

  2. Is Online Amadeus ME, XP or Windows 2000 compatible?
    Yes.

  3. Is Online Amadeus NT compatible?
    No.

  4. What do I get when I buy the Instructor version?
Inside the box you'll find a disc that includes a database to record your students scores, as well as all the accompaniments and exercises in Standard of Excellence books 1, 2, and 3.

  5. If I teach at three schools, do I need an instructor version for each school?
No. You can use the instructor version for many schools, however the grading can only go to the original database on the computer where it is set up.

  6. Can more than one teacher use the same Instructor version?
Yes, however it is limited to the single database for downloading results. Therefore, the students of all teachers using the program will have their results downloaded to the one grade book.

  7. In order to record a student’s grade, do I need the Instructor version?
No, the student will receive a grade each time. However, to upload the grade into the teacher's grade book you will need the Instructor's version.

  8. Is there a maximum number of students that can record their results in the grade book?
    No, the database is unlimited.

  9. What is the difference between the ‘practice mode’ and the one that says ‘try this exercise again’?
The 'practice mode' gives tempo changes, doesn't record the grade or give the upload option. The 'try this exercise again' mode allows the student to re-test and re-grade their performance and upload it to the teacher's grade book.

  10. What does the ‘details’ option do?
It gives more details relating to the score weighting. It shows the grading slope and gives more information relating to the score produced.

  11. What does ‘time’ mean?
This is used primarily for the testing capabilities. A student is given twenty minutes to complete their assessment.

  12. Can a child in one family use it one year, and then their brother or sister the following year?
Yes. The name of the new student will need to be entered instead of the previous student.

  13. When you print out the results, is the graph or the score or both printed?
Both can be printed out, however you must print the graph as soon as the exercise is finished. You cannot go back and print it out later.

  14. Can you upload the graph and the score to the grade book?
No, only the score is uploaded. If the teacher would like to review each note played they must have the student print out the graph.

  15. If a School buys a student five pack, can they use it on a network?
No. Each computer must have a CD in the disk drive to run the program.

  16. Will there be a school licensing deal?
No, there are currently no plans.

  17. Does there have to be a disk in the computer to make it run?
    Yes.

  18. Is it practical for use in the classroom?
Yes, however the microphone will pick up other noise in the room, so a soundproof practice room is probably better.

  19. Why do I get red dots?
The red dots indicate that the microphone is most probably picking up some ambient sound, or that the microphone recording volume is too high.

  20. Can I check the results on the website directly from my home computer, or a different computer at the school?
No, you can only have the results downloaded to the computer where the program is installed.

  21. Can you use it for percussion instruments?
    No.
