Erika Paul Carlson
Erika Paul Carlson, NCTM has been performing, empowering, and educating audiences of all ages for more than thirty years. To date, she has worked with more than 35,000 schoolchildren in Nevada and California, and is a favorite touring artist for the Sierra Arts Concerts in the Gallery, Elder Care Facility Concert Series programs and the Nevada Museum of Art Sunday Concert Series in Northern Nevada.
Her interactive children's jazz CD, songbook, and storybook learning trilogy, "Scat's My Bag" has won three national awards: the 2006 Parents' Choice Award of Approval, the 2006 Children's Web Award for Best Recording for older children ages 8 to 12, and the prestigious NAPPA Parenthood Magazine Honors Award in 2007. In addition, several of the tunes from this collection were arranged for the beginning jazz pianist and published by the Neil A. Kjos Music Company in 2008.
A lifetime member of the Northern Nevada Music Teachers Association (NNMTA), the Musicians Union (AFM) local 112, Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI) and the Jazz Education Network (JEN), Erika is also resident artist in music, improvisation and songwriting for the Nevada Arts Council. With degrees in music theory and jazz performance from the College of San Mateo and San Jose State University in both instrumental and vocal areas, Erika became a nationally certified private teacher of excellence through the Music Teachers National Association and secured permanent national certification status in 2007.
