Jeff King

JEFF KING has taught band in Texas for over 23 years,  over 18 of which have been in the Duncanville ISD. The Duncanville School District has a longstanding tradition of excellence in concert music and marching band. Currently, Mr. King is the director of the Duncanville High School Honors Band and Jazz Band. Prior to his current position, he was the director of the Duncanville Freshmen Band for 8 years and Byrd Middle School for 7 years. While at Byrd MS, Mr. King’s bands advanced to the Texas Honor Band finals four times. While teaching in Duncanville, his bands have been consistent Best in Class winners and have earned superior ratings in concert & sight-reading every year. Prior to teaching in Duncanville, Mr. King taught in the Irving and Dallas Independent School Districts.

Mr. King has co-authored a band warm-up and technique book entitled Foundations for Superior Performance and The Complete Instrument Reference Guide for band directors.  These texts are widely used throughout North America and the world.

Mr. King has presented workshops in over 25 States as well as in Australia and Canada.

Mr. King earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Baldwin-Wallace College and a Masters in Trumpet Performance degree from Southern Methodist University.

His professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, Texas Music Adjudicators Association, National Band Association, International Association for Jazz Education and the honorary music fraternity Phi Beta Mu.
